We spend more time online than ever. In 2020, it was reported that over 53% of the world’s population is on social media. Each user also has an average of 8.4 accounts, according to Hootsuite & We Are Social’s latest Global Overview Report.

An important factor to reach out with your content organically in social media is partly who you reach and to what extent but then how many of them that interact with your content. To achieve results, therefore – you need to keep track of when your target group is most active in social media.

Below we have gathered the best times and days to publish your content based on times and days when content has received the most engagement in social media, according to a study by Sprout Social which includes data from over 20,000 accounts on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Linkedin.

Facebook

Today, Facebook is the most used social platform – and it is therefore no surprise that the platform had activity almost around-the-clock in 2020. Of course, the pandemic was a contributing factor and also that Internet users increased their use of social media during the year. 

The times that the survey shows are based on the USA in central time and means that the commitment that is shown early in the morning, as well as reflects the more traditional American working day. But can also reflect how Facebook’s users generally consume the platform on a daily basis around the world based on the survey. Which makes this data valuable for both international and local companies, to be able to understand the outside world.

What times and days would be advantageous to get the most engagement on Facebook?

The best time is Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays between 9am-1pm and Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday are generally the most effective days to publish your content. The worst day turns out to be Saturday, which has shown the least commitment among users.

Instagram

2020 was an eventful year for Instagram, just like for Facebook. Among other things, the platform released a new feature: Reels, and they made improvements to stories and added other features such as shops under the explore tab. The best time is Tuesdays at 11am-2pm and Monday-Friday at 11am and Tuesdays are the most effective day to publish your content. The worst day turns out to be Sunday, which has shown the least commitment among users.

Twitter

A lot of information has been circulating on Twitter in 2020 about the pandemic and the presidential election, which received a lot of attention in the United States. Internet users have taken to the platform to get current news and information on what is happening in the outside world.

What times and days would be advantageous to get the most engagement on Twitter?

The best time is Tuesday-Thursday at 9am-11am and Wednesdays at 9am-3pm. The most effective day to publish your content turns out to be Wednesdays. The worst day turns out to be Saturday, which has shown the least commitment among users.

LinkedIn

The commitment is spread over the working week and this measurement is based on the USA, as above. Since LinkedIn is a platform that is focused on building a career network, it is important that the target group receives their content during the working day when they are mainly active. 

What times and days would be advantageous to get the most engagement on LinkedIn?

The best time and days of the week to publish your content is Tuesday-Thursday at 9am-12pm. The worst day is Sundays, which have shown the least commitment among users, which is perhaps not a surprise either, as the majority are free on weekends.
