Social audio app Clubhouse has topped 12 million global downloads

The Clubhouse app is trending in social media and is described as a mix of live podcasts, conferences and audio calls. So what do we know so far and what are the features of Clubhouse?

The social audio app Clubhouse topped 8 million global downloads in january, despite still being in a prelaunch, invite-only mode, according to new data released by mobile data and analytics firm App Annie.

The independent researcher Vajresh Balaji and also WERSM reported that the social audio network Clubhouse surpassed 10 million downloads as of February, 2021.

And most recently, in March 2021, 12.7 million global downloads were reported by social media today, according to new data released again by App Annie.

“Clubhouse turns 1 on March 17th, 2021 – the app officially launched on the iOS App Store on Sept 14, 2020, and only 6 months later has seen 12.7 million downloads globally with the US, Japan, Germany, Brazil and Russia seeing the largest footprint. Garnering this level of success from invite-only access and limited to iOS is particularly impressive and has caught the attention of other publishers – particularly those in the social media space like Twitter and ByteDance.”Lexi Sydow, Senior Market Insights Manager at App Annie

This sharp growth is attributed to several high-profile guest appearances, including those from Tesla and SpaceX founder Elon Musk and Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, for example.

Background
In recent months, you as a social media user have probably heard of Clubhouse, which is a trending audio app that has aroused great curiosity via “word of mouth”. The reason why it has been noticed is that not everyone can join the platform. Why is it like that? Continue reading, and further below you will get the answer.

About Clubhouse
The app was launched in March 2020 with the aim of creating a social network that would feel human to the user by building relationships via audio calls on the platform. Clubhouse is described as a mix of live podcast, talk and conference. The idea with the app is that wherever you are in the world, the network should be opened up to talk to people, share trending topics, brainstorm other ideas or get advice from other people. You can choose whenever you want to join a group call and whenever you want to leave the app. Unlike many other apps, Clubhouse does not have a chat or video function, which means that you can only interact with other users via calls.

The app is already valued at over a billion dollars and is constantly growing – Clubhouse currently has about 2 million weekly active users according to its CEO, Paul Davison. So far, Clubhouse has mainly taken root in the US, but wants to grow and establish itself globally.

How to access Clubhouse?
You can access the app through an invitation from another user by using the other user’s mobile number. There is also another way to go via Clubhouse’s website. You have the opportunity to download the app and register a username, but you will not have access to create an account even if you have contacts who use the app and can let you in via a notice.

What are the features of the app?
In the Clubhouse app you can join discussion forums also called “rooms” for various topics and discussions where a moderator for this room can let you in. You can choose if you want to listen only or actively participate in the conversation, then you raise your “hand” and the owner of the room chooses if you can talk. Then you choose yourself, when you want to move on to another room or jump out of the app.

Summary
Clubhouse’s development is based on the exclusivity that the app has received, because it requires an invitation, from an existing user. A lot of people are speculating, if this trending app will continue to grow or stop when the public launch comes. In fact, social media is constantly growing and what we can see is that users want the value of the platforms, therefore the app may continue to expand. That the app was launched during the pandemic which can be an advantage because the timing is right in time, so there are definitely opportunities for it to take additional ground in the media landscape. A lot of people still work from home and in this way they can get in touch with people and feel less lonely.
